Identity Theft Statistics

All identity theft statistics and consumer fraud statistics are from the Federal Trade Commission report of February 7, 2007.  Unless otherwise noted, all identity theft statistics are for calendar year 2006.

There is no doubt about it.  Identity theft is on the rise.  Computer hackers and 'phishers', telephone scammers and outright negligence by corporate America is exposing millions of Americans to identity theft.  A Washington Post article from June 7, 2005 reports that in the prior 6 months, over 6 million consumers have had their personal information lost or stolen.
